Kyle Letendre

Speaker: Making as an Act of Hope
How exactly do you find "inspiration" when the world is in turmoil? Can we simply draw the existential dread away? Certainly, design and art alone cannot save us—but what if making is an important act of hope?
About Kyle Letendre:
Kyle Letendre is a big softy in Portland, OR.
Since 2016, Kyle has operated an independent studio focusing on commercial lettering, illustration, and type design. Like a rhinestoned Swiss Army Knife, their work blurs the lines between type and image, attracting collaborations with clients such as Target, Penguin Random House, Mercedes-Benz, New Belgium Beer, Instagram, Sports Illustrated, and YouTube.
Beyond the bureau, Kyle’s love of sharp lines and exaggerated glamor formed their drag persona, Tomboy. In addition to performing and hosting around Portland, they have received invitations to speak about queer theory and its application to design at Typographics, TypeCon, Letrástica, Portland State University, and LetterWest.
