Discourse in Motion
As a maturing art from, Motion Design is playing a larger role in our everyday lives. Yet most people don't even realize that there is a term for this field. From the early days of the Star Wars opening scroll to the recent rise of AI generated video, Motion has captured audience eyes and engages them into an unspoken communique. In this panel, four artists from varying backgrounds and eras of experience will discuss the start and rise of Motion Design as a communication method and will delve into the ever evolving field to see where it could end up in the not so distant future.
About Heather Crank:
Heather Crank is an award-winning visual artist and designer, who is equally comfortable and successful in the worlds of fine art and business. Her films have been showcased at the Guggenheim, SUPERNOVA Animation Festival, Meow Wolf, Night Lights Denver and RESFest, and her clients have included firms in the tech, motion picture, music, Gen AI and educational spaces. Highly versatile and skilled, her specialties include art direction, motion design, graphic design and Gen AI. Heather holds a BFA in graphic design from the California College of Arts, and is a recipient of the Adobe Achievement Award as well as a silver IDA.
About Rob Garrott:
I'm on a journey to build a creative life through learning to create cool things, sharing my knowledge and helping people. Previously I worked as a Content Manager for LinkedIn Learning ( lynda dot com ) designing curriculum and implementing online courses for a variety of subject areas including video production, motion design, product design, 3D visualization, architecture, engineering and construction industries. Before my role at LinkedIn Learning, I worked as an Art Director, Animator, and Editor with many years of hands-on experience in the print and broadcast industries, working for ad agencies and television networks. A true creative “Jack of all trades”, I’ve worked in creative direction, design, video editing, and motion graphics animation using Cinema 4D, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Davinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, and Final Cut Pro. I've designed and produced broadcast projects for many top brands, creating everything from TV Guide ads to on-air network graphics packages, promos, television shows, and sales presentations. In addition, I was an instructor at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, teaching 3D motion graphics, compositing, and motion design for 12 years.

Corey has received wide acclaim for creating modern buildings that display sensitivity to the natural environment, daylight, spatial dynamism, and craftsmanship. An Oregon native with a deep personal connection to the diverse landscapes of the Pacific northwest, Corey has designed and developed award-winning buildings, operated his own furniture design and fabrication studio, worked as an artist and sculptor, and started two award-winning design and architecture firms.
About Ryan McCauley:
Always the creative journeyman, Ryan has spent most of his life dedicated to learning a variety of creative skillsets. With a focus on both music and visuals, he has split his career between recording and performing as a musician and creating visuals for a variety of clients and sectors. Over the last 25 years, Ryan has spent time as an audio engineer, producer, editor and live director before finally settling into a role as a Motion Designer and 3D artist. With a wide variety of clientele and sector experience, he enjoys tinkering with technical aspects of the field while still bringing a playful energy to his projects. As a community taught motion designer, Ryan also enjoys giving back to the community through education. With courses on Linked In Learning and as a teaching assistant at School of Motion, he loves to help younger artists remove their technical boundaries so that they can bring their visions to life.

About Taylor Griggs:
Taylor Griggs is an Animation Director at BUCK Design in Los Angeles, where she’s been crafting 2D animation for 7 years. She has had the chance to work on a range of projects, from small-scale videos to worldwide creative campaigns. Her diverse portfolio includes high-profile clients such as Apple, Google, Meta, and Netflix. With a keen eye for detail and a passion for storytelling through animation, Taylor continues to push the boundaries of motion design at BUCK.
